Fantastic bookstore. Larger collection of books than even my local library, they had just about every series I was interested in. The place also has a great history and many cool old books. The store doesn't look like much, in fact it may appear as almost a dump but they definitely clean the place good because: they have a cat, and I'm allergic to cats, and I was in there for 2 hours without any allergies so they must be doing something good.
I found the prices very high for used books. Even used children's books. 20% off the books price isn't much of a deal. (Hello - most are USED.) Honestly you can go to Goodwill and get better prices, but of course, not the selection. I have a large collection to trade in, or sell. Asked owner for policy on this and got a long, long, explanation on what days to call and between what times, to make an appt., to have the books reviewed at a later date ??? Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for a quick buck for sure. I'm looking for a decent store credit. I'm a reader. Also, not looking for collectibles, looking for newer releases, which may have had a large over printing, and biographies.
This bookstore is amazing. Stumbled upon it with my husband one day and we ended up taking our little ones (5&3) they had a blast. The building is huge and has a great selection of classics as well as new books! We need more bookstores like this!
Love! Love! Love this place! Yes, I'm a book worm and a nerd. Haslam's has the best assortment of used books I've seen anywhere. Plus, they carry a good variety of new. As a collector of leather bound classics, I find many of my treasures here. That's my favorite spot in the store. My second favorite is the children's section. I've found so many of the books I cherished as a child. I enjoy buying them for my nieces and nephews. I hope they too will love reading. While in the store, see if you can find the resident cat, teacup. There are two new rescue kitties that do not show themselves yet. May this treasure last another 80 years.
VERY Large selection, I was surprised how big the store was inside, almost felt like it kept going and going. If you're a book lover you'll easily spend hours in there. My only complaint is that individual used books were not what I consider reasonably priced for non-collectables. They did have full sets of some encyclopedias and other collections that did seem reasonable but I felt that the price of used books on average were comparable to their new counter part. So the size of selection and space needed to house them likely jack up the price of what they sold, but you're more likely to find that "one" book you've been looking for here. I'd go back but I wish it was cheaper.
